The Alabama Learning Exchange’s mission is to provide educators with high-quality instructional materials addressing the needs of all learners to support Alabama content standards. These content standards establish the foundation for all ALEX resources.

ALEX fully supports the Alabama State Department of Education's Alabama Achieves strategic plan by concentrating efforts on two identified priority areas: highly effective educators and academic growth and achievement. 

Launched in 2002, ALEX is a Learning Object Repository (LOR) where educators can curate, create, and evaluate instructional materials aligned with Alabama Course of Study Standards. Offering open educational resources, mini-lessons, and lesson plans, ALEX supports engaging learning experiences. The redesigned platform, launched in January 2025, introduces enhanced features to transform teaching and learning statewide. ALEX aims to empower educators, improve student outcomes, and serve as a national model for standards-based educational resources.
